This week we have been learning all about multiplication. We learnt that before we start to learn facts by heart, we have to understand what happens to numbers when we multiply them. By looking at multiplication as repeated addition and as an array, we have deepened our understanding of how we multiply. Later in the year we will start to learn some facts off by heart. By counting in 2's, 5's and 10's with your child you will really help them remember these basic multiplication tables. If your child is confident with this, counting in 3's and 4's are the next steps. Below are two videos explaining some of the methods we use to teach multiplication in Year 2. |
